What are the best sandals for nursery?
In kindergarten, your little one spends most of the day active - so it's important to choose sandals that are both comfortable, promote healthy foot development and simply appeal to your child.
Here are the key criteria for choosing the perfect kindergarten shoes:
1) Flexible: Children tend to run and move a lot outdoors, but in the kindergarten setting, they engage in different activities like walking, sitting, stumbling, and crawling. Soft shoes allow the foot to move naturally, reducing the risk of injuries.
2) Breathable: Kindergarten classrooms are often warm, and children spend the entire day there. Choose shoes made of natural materials to prevent overheating of the feet.
3) Proper size and width: If the shoe is too big, it is difficult for the child to control their gait - the foot can slip into the shoe or the child can catch and trip. Both too small and too big shoes can contribute to foot deformity, as the feet cannot move naturally in such shoes - they are either squeezed or strained to keep the shoe in place. Only the right size shoe provides stability. Learn how to choose the right shoe size here.
4) Non-slip Sole: Kindergartens usually avoid carpeted floors as they accumulate dust. We therefore recommend that you choose shoes with non-slip soles that provide good traction on the floor surface.
5) Easy to Put On and Take Off: Make sure the child can put on and take off his/her own shoes. Check that the shoes can be opened wide enough to allow the foot to slip in smoothly and that the fastening is simple and holds the shoes well on the foot.
6) Some kindergartens may request parents to select shoes with reinforced heelsĀ and closed fronts to reduce the risk of injuries. However please make sure that your chosen sandals also meet all the previous criteria.
